I bought Q an Asuka and I really liked the quality of it so I decided that I’ll get myself a Mari one.

I eBayed this one from a Japanese seller hoping that I can do an unboxing of it too but it arrived in a padded envelope without the box. I was even more disappointed when I took it out of the plastic and realized that its quality wasn’t what I expected.

I do understand that this Mari came out with the Rebuild of Evangelion Portraits 6 around late December 2011 and the Asuka is from the Rebuild of Evangelion f02 batch which came out early October 2013. I assume that the most recent releases are better, maybe because they have better techniques at making them now. Or maybe they realized that no matter the size and prize of a figure, consumers would still expect a lot from it.

I was really impressed with the Asuka that I impulsively bought this one. I got this on eBay for $15 which is really pricey for something like this. There are cheaper ones available online but they come in sets. Before, I would buy trading figures wholesale and sell the ones I'm not interested in but I've learned that doing that wasn't worth my time.

Looking at it closely, there are very evident imperfections. The figure is painted carelessly and the sculpt is not very clean.

I fully understand that this is a trading figure and that I should not expect much. I guess the Asuka and the trading figures I got before just set the bar high. Maybe I'll stay away from trading figures for a while. After this, I really felt that I should have saved my $15 instead for a more expensive but better figure.
